De pers over 'Powderblue'

Listening to a new album by Dutch duo Powderblue, called Powderblue. I like this very much for its honest simplicity. It's a country blues album, and the duo consists of Marjolein van der Klauw (vocals and acoustic guitar) and Jac Bico who is a multi-instrumentalist. The songs are mostly self-penned by Marjolein whose voice is like silk, and Jac provides some especially nice dobro as well as just about everything else. Gert-Jan Blom plays bass alongside Boyd Small on drums and Ton van Bergeijk on harmonica. My favourite track is She's Got My Heart which has a powerful hook line, and the Gillian Welch/David Rawlings songDry Town closes the album. It's a recent release on the Basta label. It's strange as one gets older that listening to music with sophisticated simplicity seems to fill the gap that music of apparent complexity fails to do. This possibly says something about the various stages of life musicians, like everyone else, pass through. The music of Powderblue, and Gillian Welch for example, provides that.
